Tally · Migration

The Move, Step By Step

A migration is a sequence, not an event. Masters before vouchers, vouchers before balances, and a certificate at the end that proves the whole thing landed.

MEASURED, NOT ESTIMATED

7,171 Vouchers. One Afternoon. Zero Re-Keying.

That is a real migration, not a projection. The time went into checking the certificate, not into typing — which is the whole difference between a migration and a data-entry project.

How It Goes

STEP 1

Connect

The connector reads your Tally company. Nothing is written anywhere until you say so.

STEP 2

Masters First

Groups, ledgers, items, godowns. Everything vouchers will need to attach to.

STEP 3

Then Vouchers

Sales, purchase, payment, receipt, journal — posted as voucher lines on one GL.

STEP 4

Then Balances

Closing balances as at your cut-off become opening balances, ledger by ledger.

Migration Questions

How long does it actually take?
One session for a typical company. The reference migration moved 7,171 vouchers in an afternoon; the time went into verification rather than entry.
Can I migrate mid-year?
Yes. Bring the whole year or start from a cut-off date — most firms pick a quarter boundary so filed returns stay untouched.
What if something does not map?
It is reported. A mismatched group, an unmapped voucher type or a ledger with no parent appears on the migration report rather than being silently dropped.
Do I have to stop using Tally during it?
No. The connector reads; it does not lock. Keep working in Tally and run in parallel for as long as you want.
Can I run it again?
Yes — re-running is how you catch up after working in Tally in parallel. Sync review shows what changed before anything is applied.
What about opening balances for a new fiscal year?
Closing balances at your cut-off become opening balances, ledger by ledger, and the certificate proves each line tied.
